BIG DAY FOR DELFINO

Yesterday was my special day, the day I left my childhood behind and became a woman. I woke early in the morning to a door bell sound which was actually more of an irate buzzing that most New Yorkers know as a household noise. The man on the other end of that buzz delivered a package to me containing a birthday card and earrings from my sister, plus a card with $20. What are they, rich?

Thankfully the day started out nice, because I spent most of my special day sitting around in court. My boyfriend and good friend Christopher X. Brodeur got sentenced to serve 6 months in jail for his reportedly harrassing form of activism, which entailed calling City Hall enough times to possibly make a world record, and now will be "vacationing" as he put it, at Riker's Island until perhaps next year.

Luckily for me, I was in great company. Friends the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, musical genius Nellie McKay, comedic pedal wizard Reggie Watts, Bilge Byron of Haunted Pussy (or Mikey McHugh), Mormon Delicious aka Mike Amato, DEVA's synth player Rob Bose, Sidewalk Anti-Folk scene photojournalist Lippe and others were in attendance. Together, we made a fun day of it, joking around, eating yummy Thai food for lunch and giving eachother faces full of shocked expression with each assinine sentence to spill from DA Duncan Levin's overpaid, lying lips. It was also quite surprising to hear the judge's distraght tone upon hearing that Christopher had called her "Bloomberg's #1 puppet at the bench." Perhaps she felt ashamed. Regardless, I'm sure it didn't help lighten his sentence any.

After the courthouse experience, I was then treated to a tasty dinner by Rachel and Tina Trachtenburg and then we went to see "An Inconvenient Truth" at the Landmark Sunshine. It was a pretty convenient theater, very close to my apartment. And equally as convenient or perhaps even more so, Jason Trachtenburg paid for my "birthday" ticket. Hell of a guy, that Jason.

I stumbled into my home, exhausted, around midnight.

It was certainly the strangest and most interesting way I've spent my birthday yet.

I can't wait to to see what next year brings.
