Foodie At Heart

Which is probably why my heart is acting like an asshole, doing a random flutter thing whenever I drink alcohol or eat rich, scrumptious food or junk, including -- gasp -- chocolate. I've had it checked out a bunch of times and *supposedly* I'm OK. I also read (on the internet, googling symptoms, in my spare time hobby of being a hypochondriac) it was related to dehydration and a magnesium deficiency, oddly, no doctor ever suggested I drink more water or take magnesium.

So anyway, yes ma'am, I've pretty much had to give up fudge and booze, among other things. But I'm not going to sit around crying and lamenting complex carbohydrates and preservatives just yet. I've been doing some lengthy research instead, looking for delicious and healthy snacks to replace the sweets and junk I love so much.

My friend David suggested this great recipe involving frozen nanas and blueberries, a bit of non-dairy creamer, a cup of protein powder and a few drops of sucralose, garnish with sprinkles.

I have modified and added to David's recipe to make it more my own, and I call it:

******

Frozen Treat

******

Ingredients:

* 1/2 frozen banana (for best results, buy ripe bananas, peel, break in half and immediately freeze in containers to have on hand as you need them)
* 1 c. strawberries OR blueberries OR pineapple (buy in bags in freezer section of grocery store)
* 2/3 serving cup vanilla soy protein powder
* 1/2 tsp Spirulina
* 1/2 tsp Raspberry flavored Natural Calm (magnesium supplement)
* 1/4 tsp cinnamon
* 1/4 cup Silk brand / soy dairy creamer

If it isn't sweet enough for you, add some agave. All these ingredients are available at your local food co-op or Whole Foods, etc.

Mix powders and creamer first, add fruit later. You should have a really rich and thick consistency frozen treat by the end which you can spoon into a cup, garnish with unsweetened coconut flakes and sprinkles. EN-joy.

******

I've been eating this treat after yoga. Yes, I admit, I gaily do yoga just about daily. Judge me. My ass is starting to look way hot and my core is rock hard, bitches. My thighs are starting to take on the shape of lean lincoln logs and my arms are starting to look like Madonna's. Frozen Treat TM is healthy, filling, naturally sweet and really satisfying, especially on a hot day. If I had known that eating healthy and working out was going to be so much fun, I would have been doing it with such zest and zeal all along, instead of stuffing my face with junk food like my kitchen is a 24 hour buffet restaurant.

Luckily, my metabolism has been OK, and even cramming my gullet full of whatever creepy ingredients I've felt like for most of my life hasn't made me fill out like the puffer fish I should be by now. If you don't believe me, check out my photo album below of the meals I've partaken in. Yes, I photograph all my meals, as if they're celebrities I'm proud to be standing next to.

White asparagus and wasabi greens, prepared by chef Kurt Gutenbrunner, of Wallze, et al. Even though to me, this meal looks way phallic and perhaps slightly homo-erotic, I ate the dickens out of it. Pun intended.

A Saturday night in, with Ms. Puss, a Yiddish book and a pile of rice and kale with tomato and nutritional yeast and a Modelo to wash it down. (before I stopped drinking)

Rachel Kramer Bussel joins me for tea and crepes, apple slices and almond butter. Yes, I know, I live in a fantasy world.

In the process of making vegan sugar cookies with Mother Theresa on them for an Easter party.

Here, I decorated them by painting food coloring on with a kitchen paint brush and dipping them in non-pareils. Go ahead, call me "the Van Gogh of the kitchen."

With love (and diabetes), from Jessica.

THIS IS HAPPENING

On Saturday day, a really fun event is happening on 10th St. between 1st and 2nd Aves. Theater for the New City has an annual street fair and festival which is free and open to the public with dozens of street vendors and a large outdoor stage / seating. Inside is free programming, as well, all weekend long. Some is awesome, some is weird, but it's all interesting and free.

I'm performing outside on Saturday along with my friends Jena Friedman, The Vinegar Works band, Stone and Stone and a few others. Come and say howdy.

Sunday night, I'm performing in the Zombie Crawl after party at Public Assembly as my zombie alter ego, presenting 2 new zombie songs for people to love, loathe and / or learn from, as is usually the outcome of my music. I may have some special guest zombie back up dancers on hand. Also on hand -- Our Lady of Perpetual PMS and G.L.O.B: Gorgeous Ladies of Bloodwrestling. Ya don't wanna miss THAT.

Strange Love #6
Guest: Jamye Waxman

Jamye and I met a few years ago while filming a show on Metro TV with Jim Norton. I would be too embarrassed to actually watch the footage, but I remember it being a lot of fun.

Jamye is a sex expert who seems to be living a life of fun, leisure and lust. An author, show producer, speaker and educator, this lovely and intelligent lady is a worldly woman, traveling and presenting on various sex related topics. Que lastima!

Though we've had some tech difficulties with the show and our video archive has been lost, I was smart enough to record the audio of the show. I edited it as best as I could and put together something of a podcast so you can at least get the audio. It's kinda breaking my heart to keep having these great guests on and at the end of our talk, realizing there's no archive of the show. So at least this way, you can hear the interesting chat we had. The audio is choppy in the beginning on Jamie's end, but it gets better a few minutes in.

Strange Love #4
The Jessica Delfino Show #5
Today's show notes

We started off the morning with the very bright and not to mention adorable Rachel Rabbit White as she discussed her sex-positive journalism and her brainchild, Lady Porn Day. Very unfortunately, we've been having a touch of tech trouble, thus I haven't seen the show in the archives yet and fear it may be gone. I'll keep you posted.

Here are some of our show topics anyway:

Daniella aka "Our Lady of Perpetual PMS" and Jessica talk (blood)wrestling

On a joyous note, however, Daniella aka "Our Lady of Perpetual PMS" dropped in to talk to us about bloodwrestling and GLOB (Gorgeous Ladies of Bloodwrestling) in what turned into a really fun and interesting conversation spanning lady wrestling, historic famous female wrestlers and more, and thankfully that episode was archived! You can watch it HERE to catch some of our great conversation and to see Our Lady's uber-creative "tampon stun gun" and her "tiara of tampons" with your own eyes.

The Jessica Delfino
(Dirty Folk Rock)
Show

I'm really excited to let you all in on a little surprise -- I've been hired to do not one, but TWO of my very own webcasts for an ambitious start up website from May 9-27. That's right! Three FULL unadulterated weeks of ME, Jessica Delfino. If only ABC knew what they were missing!

More details to come, but for now, just remember -- the FIRST SHOW is on Monday, May 9th at 2:45 PM and features very special guests Glennis McMurray and MY MOM (photographed below, btw.)

That is THE ONLY SHOW at 2:45 PM. EVER.

Starting TUESDAY, May 10, you can catch a LIVE show on-line featuring 1-2 very special guests. I'm doing 2 TOTALLY DIFFERENT shows EVERY DAY. I'm CAPITALIZING a lot of stuff in this post because there are so many IMPORTANT DETAILS.

At 10 AM, EVERY MORNING, catch "STRANGE LOVE" -- a show about all types of odd love; where to find it, where to get it, how to keep it. I've got some great guests planned and you don't want to miss one second of it. Wanna be a guest on a show? Got a great story of romance? Email me at jess delfino at yahoo dot com and introduce yourself, and I'll be the judge of how great your story is, and I may even invite you onto the show.

At 1 PM EVERY AFTERNOON, catch "The Jessica Delfino Show" -- this show features myself and special guests dishing on a topic of the day, as well as performances by myself and my guests. MISS IT AND YOU WILL HAVE BAD LUCK FOR SEVEN YEARS.

Each show is 20 minutes long. Watch it while you make breakfast or do your workout or your bulimia or what have you. Each show features someone or sometwo really great, interesting people. You aren't gonna believe the great guests I have booked. Thanks so much for every moment of your support along the way, and I hope you enjoy my shows.

Want a sneak peak of what's to come? Click here.

Where do you watch this show? Check back here or on my website this weekend or Monday AM for details. It's a big secret! Shhhh! Tell everyone!!! See you on Monday bright and early.

Wednesday - Hump Day announcements

I really dig this chic, Amy Schroeder. She runs Venus Magazine and also has spear-headed the DIY Business Association, which I love, love, love. What a great resource for so many of us working performers and small business owners in NYC.

Quick Business Tip: Always spell "business" correctly. It's a tricky word to spell, but just remember, in business, you gotta take the BUS sometimes. But you never have to ride the BUSS.

The first Brooklyn DIY Business Association Panel will be held on June 26, 2011 and I want you to be there. If you run a small business, if you are a DIY entrepreneur, artist, enthusiast, patron or anything else which you think fits into that category (so much fits in!) please save the date and be part of this landmark event.

You will hear encouraging words of business wisdom from some really amazing people, NOT JUST ME, but ALSO, me.

You can check it out HERE.

In other news, if you're sittin' around with your ding-a-ling in your hand tonight, may I suggest you check out the show I'm in, instead:

SHRINK
Luca Lounge
222 Ave B @ 12 st.
NYC
9 PM

Finally, next week starting on Monday, I'll be presenting 2 video podcasts a day for a new website called GabCast. It's gonna be pretty awesome. More details to come very soon!
